The Ultimate T-Shirt Guide – For Printing

If you have spent any time scrolling through our site, you can see the wide array of t-shirts we design and manufacture

Nowadays, there are brands for everything. Any specific need you need fulfilling, there is an answer. In the competitive industry of fashion, designs and manufactures have come with a solution for all the consumer’s needs. As a result, we can be overwhelmed with the plethora of choices. When it comes to custom printing, thousands of brands worldwide provide the consumer with what seems like an infinity of options. However, here at Spectra, we dedicate ourselves to educating our customers, so you are familiar with our quality, top-shelf products.

Regardless of your technology, ink quality or design, without the right garment, the end result will not be the highest of quality. Below, we take a look at the characteristics that make the best t-shirt for printing.

Fabric

  • The most popular material for printing is 100% cotton. It is popular for screen printing because of its ability to transfer color magnificently. For those looking for a softer and higher quality cotton, some people choose a ringspun cotton. Our club crew tees are ring-spun, giving them a snug, comfortable and confident fit.
  • The second most popular option is the 50/50. 50/50 is a material made of 50% cotton and 50% polyester. The material is soft, breathable and can be heathered to create unique color combinations.
  • A Tri-Blend fabric is a newer blend of fabric that was popularized by American Apparel. Made of 50% polyester, 25% cotton, and 25% rayon, the tri-blend is a cheaper material.

Shrinking Factor

Fabrics that don’t shrink when washed are preferable for printing. Pre-shrink fabrics have added texture that helps maintain their size and shape. Size and shape impact the picture on the t-shirt.

Seams and Construction

T-shirts that are seamless have more versatility: they are compatible for any design and are ready-to-go (no need to press the seams). Those t-shirts that do have seam stitching usually have a more customized construction resulting in a personal fit.
