Is Kanye West’s clothing horrible? Kim Kardashian’s husband has worked hard to make it in the fashion world, and his $145 million net worth has gotten a boost thanks to his fashion line Yeezy. But fashion designers just won’t take him seriously.
Tim Gunn just blasted West’s clothing line, calling it ”vulgar” and ”basic” during a recent interview with The Huffington Post.
”I think they’re a bunch of dumb clothes,” Gunn said. ”Just basic pieces. ”_ He won’t [like that comment], but let me tell you, the whole Kardashian clan doesn’t like me, so no surprise there.”
Like Season 1, the Season 2 New York Fashion Week show featured an ”army” of models in leggings, leotards and jackets. Horyn criticized the clothes, which she compared to Spanx, the militaristic vibe of the show, and those who supported West.
”This second round of drab, broken-down basics proved he can’t be taken seriously as a designer,” she wrote in her review.
”But nevertheless many people in fashion do seem to take West seriously – they keep showing up expectantly for his performances – and that makes them fools. Because they wouldn’t bother with this stuff if it were offered by an unknown, and if it’s the spectacle they seek, it changes as little as the clothes.”
Similarly, Anne Bowen compared West to Goliath because he knows he’ll bring huge crowds to his shows because he’s so famous. So when he scheduled his NYFW show at the last minute, Bowen had to change her show.
Even Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week creator Fern Mallis said she was ”kind of over Kanye.” She was heard at the Jeremy Scott show saying, ”I mean, I’m not a fan of his music, and the attitude and agenda is not my style.”
And it’s not just people in the fashion world who hate West’s clothing. Ice-T took to Twitter to slam West’s clothes back in September. ”Kanye’s fashion show stuff looks like future Slave gear to me”_ Just sayin,” he wrote. ”I’m not POP ”_ So I speak freely.”
