Opponents say Jay Jays’ new range of new T-shirts that read ”You can’t sit with us” is promoting bullying.
There is a call for this Jay Jays T-shirt to be removed from shelves.

Child psychologist Michael Carr-Gregg has called for a nationwide boycott of the stores until Jay Jays pulls the ”disgraceful” clothing from its shelves.

”To me this is absolutely unacceptable,” Dr Carr-Gregg said.

”This is exclusionary bullying. This (bullying) is a major public health issue.”

He was contacted by outraged parents who had become concerned after noticing the T-shirt in a Jay Jays store.

”I talked to a mother of one 12-year-old who said if you had any idea what life is like in the playground for my 12-year-old old you would know this is obscene,” Dr Carr-Gregg said.

The quote ”You can’t sit with us” was made popular by the 2004 hit comedy Mean Girls, which was a film about a clique of nasty high school girls.

In one scene, the group’s leader is told she is not allowed to sit with her friends because she is not wearing the right type of clothes.

In 2014, fashion brand Cotton On released a T-shirt emblazoned with the same phrase.

The chain was forced to pull the range and apologise after a barrage of customer complaints.

”This is kind of like groundhog day,” Dr Carr-Gregg said.

Jay Jays has been contacted for comment.
