Emulating what is becoming Johnny Manziel’s signature gesture, a T-shirt company is producing Manziel apparel that it hopes will have fans showing it the money.
CBSSports.com is reporting that Fresh Brewed Tees, the first company in Ohio licensed by the NFLPA to print Manziel shirts, already has come out with the Manziel “Money Gesture” pose, calling it the “Johnny Manziel money tee,”
CBSSports.com had a better name for the item: the “Johnny Cash logo,” an extension of his “Johnny Football” moniker.
Manziel gave the gesture during the Texas A&M football game against Rice in the second half. He was suspended in the first half because of his autographs “scandal” last offseason.
The 2012 Heisman Trophy winner made the sign again during live coverage of the first round of the NFL Draft, in which the Cleveland Browns selected him with the No. 22 overall pick. According to CBSSports.com, the gesture was a shout-out to his good friend, rapper Drake.
The Manziel situation presents a dichotomy sure to keep the Browns occupied this season. On Tuesday, the Browns announced that they were banning national media from attending the team’s rookie minicamp that runs Friday through Sunday in an effort to “protect” Manziel.
The Browns were hoping to avoid what the New York Jets experienced in 2012 when Tim Tebow showed up for their offseason workouts.
But CBSSports.com also reported that the Browns sold 2,300 season-ticket renewals or new purchases for 2014, just one day after Manziel was drafted.
