Republicans, apparently hungry for a return to the White House, are selling the wistful apparel on the RNC website. Bush left the White House at the end of 2008 amid dismal approval ratings and a shattered economy.
Absence apparently makes the GOP’s heart grow fonder.
The Republican National Committee has put on sale T-shirts celebrating former President George W. Bush’s tumultuous tenure in the White House.
The shirts, which sell for $27 each and were put on sale in honor of Bush’s 68th birthday Sunday, feature print that reads ”I Miss W,” alongside a picture of the 43rd U.S. President.
Profits from the shirt, released more than six years after Bush left the Oval Office with the U.S. economy in shambles and amid dismal approval ratings, go to the RNC.
”President George W. Bush led our nation through some of the most challenging moments of our nation’s history – and we miss him and his leadership,” reads the group’s fundraising pitch on its website. ”By sporting this comfortable, classic, American-made tee, you can share our message and help us elect principled conservative leaders to office.”
According to a CBS News/New York Times poll conducted in January 2009, Bush’s final approval rating in office was 22%, the second-lowest rating for a President leaving office ever
