Burton has removed the T-shirt from sale after complaints from Rangers fans

Burton has apologised to Rangers for selling a T-shirt with an altered image of the club’s founders and the slogan: “underworld division champions”.

Fans of the Ibrox club contacted the retailer after images of the T-shirt went viral on social media.

Burton said it wished to “apologise unreservedly for any offence” and said it had removed the item from sale.

The retailer said it was “unaware of any connection to Rangers” and “any reference was purely inadvertent”.

In a statement, Burton said: “We wish to apologise unreservedly for any offence caused by the T-shirt displayed on our website. It has been removed from the site and will not be re-appearing.

“We would like to assure you that we were unaware of any connection to Rangers Football Club and any reference was purely inadvertent.

“Thank you for bringing it to our attention and allowing us to rectify the situation.”
